Melissa’s love of animals was apparent from a very young age, and it is a love that has not diminished at all! She always knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to helping animals, it was this desire that led her to volunteering for Elizabeth’s Wildlife Center the moment she met the age requirement.

Volunteering eventually became part time employment, then full time employment. Melissa is absolutely thrilled to be working her dream job at a wildlife rehabilitation centre that she loves. Melissa has been involved with Elizabeth’s Wildlife Center in one way or another for 24 years.

While she loves all of the patients, she has a particular soft spot for the American Crows and Steller’s Jays, they are just so cheeky!

Kristie Johnson
Assistant Manager
Wildlife Rehabilitator

Kristie has always had a passion for wildlife and animals, though she spent most of her adult life working in the business sector.  Needing a change of pace, Kristie started working as a farm hand for a friend, and very quickly bonded with the various barnyard animals (one special goat in particular).  She found her mind and spirit calmed in a way she hadn't expected nor experienced before.  She came across a posting for Elizabeth's Wildlife Center and, with no experience, expected that she wouldn't be considered, but here we are.  Kristie proved herself to be a fast learner and integral part of the team, becoming Assistant Manager shortly after a year of her employment.

If you ask Kristie what her favourite animal is, she'll tell you that she loves them all, and it's true.  She really does.  However, if she was forced to choose, for mammals it would have to be the Eastern Grey Squirrel, especially as a baby, and for birds, there is nothing more adorable than a fledgling Seagull!
